“It’s no secret that Long Island’s North Fork is paradise for New York food lovers,” the Gotham-based daily email Tasting Table recently declared. Well, duh!
But we had no idea just how popular that bountiful region between Riverhead and Orient had become. In fact, when Tasting Table announced its latest MasterCard® Priceless® New York meal at its Test Kitchen & Dining Room in Soho, featuring “a farm-fresh multicourse feast: prepared by its executive chef, Brendan McHale, that included Peconic Bay seafood, veggies from Satur Farms and Sang Lee Farms, wines from North Fork’s Shinn Estate Vineyards, and a bonus treat courtesy of Fork & Anchor General Store, it sold out in just over 24 hours–and at $120 a pop. (Apparently, there are still some seats left–at $20 a pop–for Silvia Lehrer’s “Savoring the Hamptons” book talk at the James Beard house tomorrow night.)
It’s news like this that makes us grateful to call these North Fork food and drink artisans neighbors and to call this place home.
